Winter Skin Part Three – Face & Hair
We’re a little late finishing our winter skin series though given the weather at the moment perhaps not!
In theory at least, we’re coming to the end of the winter season and by now your face and hair has been trying to deal with the combined effects of central heating when inside and exposure cold weather outdoors for a number of months. As a result the skin on your face may well be looking a bit dull and dry and your hair may be looking equally frazzled.
Your beauty regime starts from within and you’ve already got a head start if you’re a Vegetarian or Vegan and following a healthy diet. Keeping yourself well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids is another must for healthy skin, whatever the season.
You don’t have to sacrifice your Vegetarian, Vegan or natural beauty ethics though to keep your skin and hair in tip top condition during winter, read on for some natural and organic skincare and haircare tips and ideas.
If your skin is oily and you usually use a light moisturiser, you may find in the winter you would benefit from a richer one. For example, try moving from Ecocert certified evolve multi peptide Single Cream moisturiser to their Double Cream version.
Another option for all skin types is to double up and use a serum or oil as well as your usual moisturiser. Argan oil for example is a marvellous oil and can be used all over the body (see our hair section below). Argan oil is anti-ageing, repairing and hydrating and suitable for all skin types. Our Akamuti Argan Oil is organic and right now comes with a free dispensing bottle to make it easier for you to dispense just what you need.
Remember to continue to exfoliate and use a face mask regularly to keep your skin in tip top condition.
We’ve got moisturising scrubs from Heavenly Organics, perfect radiance face polish by evole and some lovely powder face masks from Akamuti, pick the right one for your skin type, add water or flower waters (for an extra boost) to mix, apply and then lie back and relax for 10 minutes. Find these and others in our ‘Treat‘ section.
If your skin is dry, a moisturising mask would be best, how about making one yourself?
A very simple one is to make avocado. Moisturising for dry skin and rich in nutrients, simply mash some ripe avocado and apply to your face to let it works its wonders for 10 minutes or so. Don’t forget the slices of cucumber for your eyes!
Your hair also has to stand up to the ravages of cold, windy and wet weather outside and warm, dry central heating inside and that’s without the usual treatment it gets from heat styling.
Give it an extra treat and some protection by applying Argan oil, such as our Akamuti Organic Argan Oil. Avoid your roots if your hair has a tendency to be oily, just rub a few drops between your palms and apply along the hair shaft and to the ends to protect from split ends and help keep your hair shiny and healthy. Those of you with dry scalps will benefit from a good massage at the roots with it though! You can apply Argan oil after washing, before you dry your hair and as an added bonus you’ll find it will speed up the drying process. You can also apply it after drying when it will still smooth, protect and add shine.
Akamuti Organic Fairtrade Coconut Oil is also a fantastic hair conditioner as it softens the hair and conditions the scalp. Used as a pre-wash conditioner it can also help you to combat dandruff. Coconut oil strengthens the structure of damaged, devitalized hair as it’s an effective lubricator. It also softens the hair shaft through the action of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron. The best way to apply the coconut oil is to massage the oil gently into the scalp and leave for up to half an hour before shampooing out. (You can leave on as long as you wish, but the cooler it gets the harder it is to shampoo out!!).
